Pappu Charu Recipe Ingredients
- 1 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)
- 1/2 cup tamarind paste
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/4 teaspoon hing (asafoetida)
- 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon curry leaves
- 1 tablespoon oil
- Salt to taste

- Rinse the toor dal and soak it in water for at least 30 minutes.
- In a pressure cooker, combine the toor dal, tamarind paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, hing, mustard seeds, curry leaves, oil, and salt.
- Add 3 cups of water to the pressure cooker and close the lid.
- Put in Pressure cook for 3 whistles.
- Once the pressure has released naturally, open the lid and mash the dal with a spoon.
- If the dal is too thick, add more water and bring it to a simmer.
- Serve hot with rice.
