Chocolate Modak Recipe

Chocolate Modak is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It is made with a mixture of chocolate, mawa, and nuts, and is shaped into the traditional modak shape. Chocolate Modak Recipe ingredients

  • 1 cup grated mawa
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ghee
  • 1 tablespoon oil or butter or ghee for greasing the moulds or as required.

How to prepare Chocolate Modak:

  1. Heat a pan. Keep the heat on sim or low and then add 1 cup grated or crumbled mawa.
  2. Keep stirring on low heat for a minute.
  3. After 1 to 2 minutes the mawa would start melting. The timing will vary with the quality of the mawa, thickness of the pan and the intensity of heat.
  4. Once the mawa has melted, then add 2 tablespoons of sugar to it. You can add less or more sugar according to taste.
  5. Mix and stir for a minute.
  6. Then quickly add ⅓ cup chocolate chips. Use good quality chocolate chips.
  7. Mix and stir until both are combined.
  8. Switch off the heat and transfer to a plate. Cool this completely before we mould to chocolate modak.
  9. Grease your pan and begin to heat mawa and sugar on a low to medium flame. Both begin to melt and the mixture turns gooey.
  10. Keep stirring and continue to cook until the mixture thickens. This may take about 5 to 8 mins depending on the thickness of your pan and the intensity of the flame.
  11. Add 1 tsp ghee and stir well. You will begin to see the mixture leaving the sides of the pan.
  12. Add cocoa powder and stir very well until both are combined.
  13. Switch off the heat and transfer to a plate. Cool this completely before we mould to chocolate modak.
  14. Once the mixture is cool, take a small portion of it and shape it into a modak shape. You can use a modak mould or simply shape it with your hands.
  15. Repeat steps 14 and 15 until all of the mixture has been used.
  16. Place the Chocolate Modaks on a plate and garnish with chopped nuts (optional).
  17. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator for later.
